Ershad with 17 leaders in Bangabhaban

Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad went to Bangabhaban to participate in President Abdul Hamid's dialogue on the formation of the Election Commission. 17 top leaders of the party are with him.

A motorcade of Jatiya Party leaders entered Bangabhaban shortly before 3 pm on Tuesday. The dialogue will be held at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhavan.

Other members of the delegation are- Opposition Leader and Party Co-Chairman Roshan Ershad, GM Quader, Secretary General Ruhul Amin Howladar, Presidium Member Water Resources Minister Anisul Islam Mahmud, MA Sattar, Kazi Firoz Rashid, Ziauddin Ahmed Bablu, Syed Abu Hossain Babla, Fakhrul Imam, State Minister for Labor Mujibul Haque Chunna, Salma Islam, Delwar Hossain, SM Faisal Chishti, Taj Rahman, State Minister for Local Government Moshiur Rahman Ranga, Khaled Akhtar and Opposition Chief Whip Tajul Islam Chowdhury.

The party has already informed that the National Party will present five proposals in the meeting with the President. The proposals are-

1. Keeping the Election Commission completely independent.

2. Formulate a legal framework for the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner and the Election Commission as per the Constitution.

3. Legislation to create a separate secretariat for the Election Commission and pass it in the current Parliament.

4. Imposing restrictions on the appointment of Election Commissioners to other offices and fixing their minimum and maximum age.

5. To ensure impartiality, personal concentration and integrity, electoral knowledge, physical and mental fitness, non-political activity of Election Commissioners.

President Abdul Hamid's dialogue with the political parties started with the start of talks with the BNP, which was outside the parliament on Sunday. President's press secretary Zainal Abedin said that the date of the talks with the Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JASD) will be rescheduled to the five parties that were invited to participate in the talks on December 12.

Besides, the President will hold talks with the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) at 3 pm on Wednesday and the Farmers-Shramik Janata League at 4:30 pm. A letter is to be sent from Bangabhaban inviting several other parties for talks in stages.

Before this, the President's dialogue on the formation of the Election Commission started with a meeting with the BNP on December 18.
