BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that Awami League President Sheikh Hasina could not become the prime minister of the country. He said, 'The language in which the Prime Minister spoke about the founder, current chairperson and other top leaders of our party is out of political etiquette. We condemn it.'
The BNP Secretary General said these things in a press conference at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan on Friday. He said, 'Ziaur Rahman is not involved in Sheikh Mujib's murder in any way. BNP was not born then. Ziaur Rahman was the Deputy Chief of Army at that time. But the army chief did not come forward. Despite this, Awami League has awarded him.
Mirza Fakhrul said about the flood in Sylhet region, "So far, no visible relief activities of the government have been seen regarding the forest victims. Although the government promoted its role model of development, it failed to give early warning of floods to the people. Now billions of rupees are being spent on the inauguration of Padma Bridge, holidays have been given to schools and colleges. But the government is not giving any allocation even if people die of starvation due to flood.'
He also said, 'The main goal of the government is not the welfare of the people. To create and inaugurate big projects and loot and launder a lot of money from them.'
At that time, Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku, a member of the party's standing committee, said, 'Water is decreasing in Sylhet and people's suffering is increasing. People are crying out for relief. Our activists are delivering relief to the flood victims in 13 upazilas and five municipalities of Sylhet every day.'
The families of missing persons are suffering: Meanwhile, Mirza Fakhrul said after meeting the family of missing councilor Chowdhury Alam at Khilgaon in the capital, 'Those who have gone missing have been deprived of their right to life. Their families are not getting bank transactions, property ownership, even inheritance certificates. The family of the missing person is in extreme pain.'
UTAB's support in relief fund: The University Teachers Association of Bangladesh (UTAB) has provided support to BNP's national relief fund for flood victims in northern areas including Sylhet, Sunamganj. Yesterday at the BNP Chairperson's political office, the party's Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul and Relief Committee Convener Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku handed over this financial aid to Utab President Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam and Secretary General Professor Morshed Hasan Khan.
