Cabinet technocrats ordered to resign

Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has ordered the resignation of the technocrat members of the current cabinet.

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said this at Ganobhaban on Tuesday (06 November).

He said, in an informal meeting after the formal end of today's cabinet meeting, the prime minister ordered the resignation of the technocrat ministers of the cabinet, while the others will remain in their posts. They don't have to resign.

At the same time, the Prime Minister will speak at a press conference on Thursday about the summary of the dialogue.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that Awami League will not enter into any dialogue after November 7.

They are - Religion Minister Principal Matiur Rahman, Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Minister Nurul Islam BSc, Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology Minister Mustafa Jabbar and Science and Technology Minister Yafes Osman.

Those concerned say that it is very clear from the directive to resign the technocrat members of the cabinet - the election government is going to be formed with the responsibility of some important ministries in the technocrat quota from among the Jatiya Oikya Front leaders.

Jatiya Oikya Front's demand is to dissolve the parliament and form a neutral government during the election. However, the government coalition is adamant about accepting this demand. Within the existing constitutional framework, the new contours of electoral government come into discussion.

According to Article 57 (2) of the Constitution, one-tenth of the ministers, including the Prime Minister, can be nominated from among the unelected.
