Dhaka Metropolitan Detective Police (DB) Joint Commissioner Mahbub Alam told Banglanews that barrister Moinul Hossain was arrested because of a warrant against him in a defamation case in Rangpur. After that he was taken to the DB office at Minto Road. He will be handed over to the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate's Court in the Rangpur case on Tuesday (October 23).
When asked about the interrogation, he said, "We have just arrested." DB will interrogate if the court allows.
Earlier at 9:50 PM, Saiful, personal assistant of ASM Rob, told Banglanews that four cars of Detective Police (DB) and two police cars were stationed in front of Rob's house. Moinul Hossain entered Rob's house before that.
On the night of October 16, barrister Moinul Hossain made a 'characterless' comment directed at journalist Masuda Bhatti on a private television channel's talk show, causing a storm of discussion on social media.
Masuda Bhatti filed a defamation case against Barrister Moinul in Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court on Sunday. Another case was filed in the court of Jamalpur Chief Judicial Magistrate with the same complaint. However, Barrister Moinul got bail from the High Court in two cases.
But later cases were filed against him in Rangpur, Brahmanbaria, Comilla, Bhola and Kurigram. Among these, judicial courts issued warrants in several cases.
