EC to meet on Saturday to decide schedule

Dhaka:

The Election Commission (EC) is meeting on Saturday (November 3) to finalize the schedule for the upcoming 11th parliamentary elections.

EC Additional Secretary Mokhlesur Rahman confirmed this information on Tuesday (October 30) evening.

He said that a commission meeting has been called for November 3 at 3 pm. The overall issue of the election will be discussed in it.

In response to a question about whether there will be any discussion on the announcement of the schedule, Mokhlesur Rahman said, "Maybe."

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda will announce the schedule of the national elections in his address to the nation once finalized.

The first session began on January 29, 2014. Accordingly, the term of the 10th National Parliament will end on January 28, 2019.

According to the constitution, the Election Commission is required to complete the elections within ninety days before the end of the term of parliament. Accordingly, the organization is planning to schedule the elections in early November and hold them in the second half of December.

An inter-ministerial meeting has been called for October 31 before announcing the election schedule. The commission will then meet the President on November 1 to brief him on the election preparations.
