1 killed in post-election violence in Karnaphuli

A person named Ramzan Ali (35) was killed in the post-election violence in Charpatharghata UP of Karnaphuli Upazila of Chittagong. The incident took place at Charpatharghata Union of the upazila around 7:30 pm on Thursday.

The deceased Ramzan Ali is the son of Badsha Fakir of Ichanagar village. He is said to be the library affairs secretary of the Karnaphuli Upazila Swachhasevak League.

Voting was held in Charpatharghata UP yesterday on Wednesday (June 15) in the last phase of the election. In that union, there was a conflict between Saidul Haque, who was elected in Ward No. 7, and another candidate, Ishaq.

According to local sources, in the evening, the member candidate. Ishaq's supporter Ramzan Ali, on his way to market, was stopped by Shahidul Islam and Khorshed, supporters of the elected candidate Saidul Haque member, at the shop area of Noor Mohammad Saudagar of Ishanagar village. At one stage of the argument, Saidul member's supporters beat and stabbed Ramzan Ali. Later the locals rescued him and took him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where the doctor in charge declared him dead.

Chittagong Medical College Hospital Police Outpost Deputy Inspector Alauddin Talukder confirmed the matter.

Karnaphuli Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dulal Mahmud said that we have learned that a person named Ramzan Ali was hacked to death in Madhyam Ichanagar village. However, no one has complained to the police about this yet. Police are trying to arrest those involved in this incident.
