Char Lawrence and Char Martin union parishad (UP) elections of Kamalnagar upazila of Lakshmipur have been allocated among the candidates.
Upazila Election Officer and Returning Officer Zakir Mahmud on Saturday (October 15) afternoon allocated symbols among the candidates for the election to be held on October 31.
Six candidates are contesting for the chairman post in Char Lawrence UP. Among them AKM Nurul Amin master boat of Awami League, Mosharef Hossain Khokon rice grain of BNP, Islami Andolan Md. Mochleh Uddin Hatpakha, independent candidate Farida Yachmin Ghora, Mir Shibbir Ahmed Chashma and Abul Kashem Howladar have been given the pineapple symbol.
In this union, symbols have been allocated among nine candidates for reserved women membership and 35 candidates for general membership.
Five candidates are contesting for the post of Chairman in Char Martin Union. Among them, Awami League's Mohammad Yusuf Ali (Miya Bhai) boat, BNP's Ali Ahmed Dhaner Sheesh, National Socialist Party's Abdul Baten (Babul Munshi Tara), Islamic Movement's Md. Muslim Uddin Hatpakha and independent candidate Jahangir Alam have been given motorcycle symbols.
Symbols have been allocated among 10 candidates for reserved women membership and 37 candidates for general membership in this union.
According to the sources of Upazila Election Office and Returning Officer's office, the schedule of Char Lawrence and Char Martin Union Parishad elections was announced on May 4 of this year. According to the schedule, May 9 was the last day for submission of nomination papers. Allotment of symbols was scheduled on May 20 and polling day on June 6. But the election was later postponed due to border complications. The Election Commission again fixed the polling day on October 31.
