A dacoit Sardar Abul Hossain (55) was killed in a gunfight at Kamalnagar in Lakshmipur. The robbery took place at Siraj Majhi's house in Char Kadira Union of the upazila late on Thursday night. At that time, the owner of the house, Mujibul Haque Majhi, was seriously injured in the robber's attack. He was admitted to Noakhali Sadar Hospital and the dead body was sent to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital for post-mortem. Dakat Abul Hossain is the son of deceased Abdul Haque of Under Char area of Noakhali.
Injured Mujibul Haque's daughter-in-law Parveen said that a group of 14-15 robbers broke the door of the house and entered inside late at night. At that time, the robbers looted about 3 lakhs worth of goods including cash, jewellery.
Locals said that the bandits attacked several houses apart from that house. Later, when the villagers got together and chased the dacoits, the other dacoits managed to escape, but Abul Hossain was caught by the villagers and beaten to death. Char Qadira UP Chairman Khaled Saifullah confirmed the robbery. The Kamalnagar Police Station, however, prefers to call the matter theft rather than robbery.
Kamalnagar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Kabir Ahmad confirmed the truth of the incident and said that a theft was organized at Siraj Majhi's house. Abul Hossain was killed in the stampede and the householder Mujibul Haque was injured.
