Six chairman candidates of Char Lawrence and Char Martin Union Parishads (UPs) in Kamalnagar Upazila of Lakshmipur have boycotted the elections.
The candidates boycotted the vote by holding separate press conferences from 12:30 to 2 pm on Monday (October 31).
They are - BNP chairman candidate of Char Lawrence Union and current chairman Mosharraf Hossain Khokon, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's Mosleh Uddin, independent candidate Master Abul Kashem Howlader, BNP candidate and current chairman of Char Martin Union Ali Ahmed, Islami Andolan Bangladesh's candidate Mufti Muslim Uddin Noori and independent candidate Md. Jahangir Alam.
The candidates told Pallinews, "In the afternoon, government party members occupied the center and openly voted with the boat symbol. As a result, the candidates could not cast their votes themselves. In addition, the candidates were attacked. That is why we boycotted the vote."
