Dhaka:
In the upcoming 11th National Assembly elections, the opposition parties announced that they would not participate in the election due to various demands, including a neutral interim government, but in the end, all the parties submitted their nomination papers.
Bangladesh Awami League has fielded candidates in 265 seats and Bangladesh Nationalist Party-BNP in 295 seats. And Jatiya Party has given candidates in 210 seats.
Election Commission (EC) Secretary Helaluddin Ahmad said that 3 thousand 67 candidates have submitted their nomination papers. Candidates of these parties are 2 thousand 569. And 498 people have submitted nomination papers as independent candidates.
On Thursday (November 29), the Election Management Branch reported that all 39 registered parties have submitted their nomination papers to compete in the upcoming 11th National Assembly elections.
The Election Commission has also taken the issue very seriously. EC officials say that since the BNP and its partners did not participate in the January 5 election, there was little challenge in management. But this time all the parties are seeing it as a challenge as they have submitted their nominations. Meanwhile, the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda has directed the officials to be vigilant and perform their duties at all times for fair elections.
