All fishing including hilsa is prohibited from October 7-28

In order to preserve hilsa resources, the main breeding season of hilsa i.e. from October 7 to October 28 for a total of 22 days in the area of seven thousand square kilometers of the breeding area, the government has announced a complete ban on all types of fish collection, transportation, storage, marketing and buying and selling.

The decision was taken at the meeting of the National Task Force Committee regarding the implementation of 'Mae-Hilsha Conservation Campaign-2018' during the main breeding season under the chairmanship of Fisheries and Livestock Minister Narayan Chandra Chand at the Secretariat on Sunday (September 23).

The breeding areas are - Shaher Khali to Haitkandi point in Mirsarai upazila, North Tajumuddin to West Syedpur Aolia point in Tajumuddin upazila, Lata Chapali point in Kalapara upazila and North Kutubdia to Gandamar point in Kutubdia upazila.

Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock Senior Information Officer. Shah Alam said that for the safe breeding of hilsa, Chandpur, Laxmipur, Noakhali, Feni, Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Barisal, Bhola, Patuakhali, Barguna, Pirojpur, Jhalkathi, Bagerhat, Shariatpur, Dhaka, Madaripur, Faridpur, Rajbari, Jamalpur, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Fishing will be stopped in all rivers of Manikganj, Kishoreganj, Tangail, Munshiganj, Khulna, Satkhira, Kushtia, Rajshahi, Chapainawabganj, Sirajganj, Natore, Pabna, Kurigram, Gaibandha, Brahmanbaria and Gopalganj districts.

Also, fishing will be closed for these 22 days in coastal areas and estuaries including the Sundarbans of the country. A 22-day campaign will also be conducted in the country's Machghat, Art, Hatbazar, chainshops and related areas.

The minister called upon the fishermen community, fisheries association, general public and the related administration to give full cooperation during this time.

In the meeting, Fisheries Secretary Raichul Alam Mandal, Director General of Fisheries Department Abu Said. Rashedul Haque, Director General of Fisheries Research Institute Yahia Mahmud, President of National Fishermen's Association Islam Ali and General Secretary Fanibhushan Malo and senior officers of Naval Police, Coast Guard, Police, Air Force were present.
