MPO of 26 schools to be cancelled

The Ministry of Education has decided to cancel the MPO (government funded) status of institutions with 100% failure rate in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations. Such instructions may be issued within the next week.

Sources said that a file in this regard has been prepared in the ministry.

Sources said that this year, all the students of 16 schools under the eight general boards and 96 educational institutions under the Madrasa Board failed in the SSC and equivalent examinations. Of these, 7 are under the eight boards and 19 are under MPO under the Madrasa Board. The ministry has decided to cancel the MPO of these institutions.

It is learnt that after the results of the examination were published, the Education Minister held a meeting with the chairmen of all the boards. There, the Minister ordered legal action to be taken against educational institutions with zero passes. After that, the respective boards prepared a list of educational institutions with 100% failure. On May 13, the authorities of schools under the Madrasa Board with 100% failure were given show cause notice. In turn, show cause notices were given to the authorities of schools affiliated to the general board.

According to multiple board sources, among the institutions that failed 100 percent, there are 3 institutions in Dhaka Board, 5 in Dinajpur Board, 4 in Barisal Board, 2 in Rajshahi Board, and 2 in Jessore Board. Out of these, 3 institutions in Dhaka Board, 1 in Dinajpur Board, 2 in Barisal Board, 1 in Rajshahi Board, and 1 in Jessore Board are MPO-listed institutions.

Dhaka Board Chairman Professor Md. Ziaul Haque said, "Show cause notices have been issued to educational institutions with 100% failure rates. Their response has been sent to the Ministry of Education. We will take action against these institutions as per the decision of the ministry."

When asked about this, Salma Jahan, Joint Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division (Schools) of the Ministry of Education, said, "We have received the reply to the show cause sent by the Education Board. It has been verified. We think that institutions with 100% failure are not necessary. That is why it is being decided to take action against them."

When asked what kind of action could be taken, he said, "The MPO of the institutions that are included in the MPO will be canceled. And the approval and recognition of those that are not included in the MPO will be canceled. A letter in this regard will be sent to the MPO branch of the Ministry of Education within the next week. Instructions will be given to the Department of Secondary and Higher Education to implement it," the joint secretary said.
