In Lakshmipur, allegations have been made against some Chhatra League and Youth League leaders and activists of taking the brothers and sisters from the expatriates' houses and extorting ransom under the identity of the police. During this time, the house was vandalized, 26,000 taka in cash and gold ornaments were looted.
The incident took place on Tuesday (July 12) late night when Alauddin Raju, an Omani expatriate of Titarkandi village in Charshahi Union of Sadar Upazila, came to visit his house. Jubo League worker Adnan has been arrested by the police for his involvement in the incident. He is the son of Bahar Master of that area.
Meanwhile, the District Assistant Superintendent of Police (Circle) visited the spot on Wednesday afternoon after receiving the information. He spoke to the affected families, local residents and related parties.
Expatriate's wife Kajal Rekha said elder sister Minwara Begum's son Rocky (24) and daughter Mahinur (30) came to visit her home. When they fell asleep after eating at night, the leaders of Jubo League-Chatra League, led by Fahad of that area, Adnan, Rokon, Piyas and Hriday broke the door and entered his house around 1 am, posing as police. Meanwhile, they broke the lock of the almirah and looted Tk 26,000 in cash, gold ornaments, mobile phone sets. At that time, the house was vandalized when trying to block it.
He also said that while leaving, the terrorists took his sister's son and daughter at gunpoint and took them to Adnan's house. Later the terrorists demanded ransom. At this stage, they were released on Wednesday morning after paying Tk 10,000 to the terrorists.
Charshahi Union Chhatra League President Rezaul Karim Riaz said the incident is sad. Organizational action will be taken against those involved in this incident.
Mosharof Hossain, the president of A'League of that union, said that those who have been charged in this incident. They are all Chhatra League and Jubo League leaders and activists.
District Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police (Circle) said. Nasim Mia said, a young man has been arrested in this incident. The matter is being seriously investigated. Necessary legal action will be taken against those involved in the incident.
