The United Nations calls for assistance to Bangladesh in the Rohingya issue

United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk has called on the countries of the world to help Bangladesh in the Rohingya issue. At the same time, he emphasized on coordinated measures to save the lives of Rohingyas in the sea. This information was informed in the press release sent from Geneva on Friday.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said that at least 2,400 Rohingyas tried to leave Bangladesh and Myanmar in 2022. Among them, more than 200 Rohingyas died in the sea.

Media reports have shown overcrowded and unsafe boats carrying Rohingyas floating in the sea without any help. Volker Turk urged countries in the region to take coordinated measures to find and protect the Rohingya.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights said that an urgent solution should be found for the repatriation of the Rohingyas to Myanmar with full respect and with full respect for human rights.
