Hundreds of students are stuck in a boat at Sunamganj Char

An engine-powered boat carrying hundreds of students from various universities including Dhaka University got stuck due to engine failure and heavy rain and current at Char near Doarabazar of Surma River in Sunamganj. 

Confirming the issue, Samakal called for their rescue on an urgent basis, including Shoaib Ahmed, a student of the 2018-19 academic year of the Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University who was trapped there. 

Shoaib Ahmed said, there is a lot of current running here. It is raining a lot. Everyone is in fear for their lives this night. Urgently calling for our rescue.

He also said that we are not getting any response even by calling the army and 999. The army is also afraid to take risks. There is no one around where we are. Only water around.

It is known that on the night of June 14, 21 students of Dhaka University went for a walk in Sunamganj's Tangua Haor. When the flood situation worsened in the area on June 16, the district administration rescued them and brought them to the district police lines. From there, at 2.30 pm today, at least 100 people from various universities including them were sent to Sylhet by boat operated by Inchin, they found themselves in such a situation.

Dhaka University Proctor Professor Dr. AKM Golam Rabbani said, I have spoken to them. I have requested the District Commissioner, local administration to rescue them as soon as possible They have done a lot, let them cooperate a little more. May my students be safe
