A-League-backed influential UP chairman beat freedom fighter in Lakshmipur

Pally News Desk:
Influential Awami League leader and UP Chairman Abul Kashem Chowdhury and his associates have been accused of beating up a freedom fighter named Noor Mohammad (72) after applying to the ministry to take action against bogus freedom fighters in Lakshmipur.

At around 12:30 pm on Saturday, the Chairman called him to the Uttarjaipur Union Parishad office No. 9 of Sadar Upazila and detained him in the bathroom. Freedom fighter Noor Mohammad complained to the journalists that Chowkidar Abdullah, Paran member and local Tipu, led by the chairman, beat him up. The injured freedom fighter was admitted to Sadar Hospital.

Accused Abul Kashem is the general secretary of Sadar Upazila Awami League and the chairman of No. 9 North Jaipur Union and the son of martyred freedom fighter Mukbul Ahmed of Paschim Chowpalli village of Chandraganj Union and injured freedom fighter Noor Mohammad.

While undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital, freedom fighter Noor Mohammad told reporters that he was a commander in the war of independence. According to the instructions of the government, he recently listed the fake freedom fighters in his area and applied to the Sadar UNO to take action against them. Later the complaint was given to the UNO Social Service Officer for investigation. From there, knowing the incident, some fake freedom fighters including Chairman Abul Kashem got angry with him.

Chairman Abul Kashem called him to the office around 12:30 pm on Saturday. At one stage Chairman Abul Kashem, Chowkidar Abdullah, Paran member and local Tipu beat him up and locked him in the bathroom. Later he escaped through the window and escaped with his life.

Awami League leader and UP chairman Abul Kashem Chowdhury denied the allegations and said that some local freedom fighters led by Noor Mohammad tried to occupy the area of agricultural expansion in front of the union office. When Nur Mohammad was called to find out about this, he tried to attack him. When there was public outrage, freedom fighter Noor Mohammad was kept safely in a room of the office to keep him safe. He jumped to escape from there and was injured.

Sadar Upazila Muktijoddha Commander Md. Mahbub said, a freedom fighter being detained and beaten in this way is a shameful incident. Necessary measures will be taken by forming an inquiry committee in this regard.

Azizur Rahman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Laxmipur Chandraganj Police Station said, I have heard the incident of beating up a freedom fighter in Jaipur Union Parishad. No one has come forward to complain yet. If written complaint is received, necessary action will be taken after investigation.
