Chief of Bashar's forces killed in 'gunfight' in Lakshmipur

Bashar (35), the head of Bashar's army, was killed in a 'gunfight' with the police in Lakshmipur. Three policemen including a Deputy Inspector of Police (SI) were injured.

The incident took place in Kajjalipur village of Parvatinagar union of Laxmipur Sadar upazila late on Friday (December 30).

The deceased Bashar is the son of Syed Ahmed of Sonapur village of that union. His body is in Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital Mortuary.

The injured Sub Inspector of Police (SI) Omar Farooq, Constable Quddus and Uppal received first aid from Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital.

Laxmipur Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdullah Al Mamun said that they were preparing for robbery in Kajjalipur village. On the basis of secret information, the police went to the operation. Sensing the presence of the police, the robbers opened fire at the police. The police also fired back in self-defense. At one point the bandits retreated. However, the police rescued Bashar, who was shot dead, and took him to Lakshmipur Sadar Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead. A LG, 5 rounds and several domestic weapons were recovered from the spot. He also said that there are 15 cases against Bashar including murder.
