The Cabinet has given in-principle approval to the draft of the Chief of Defence Staff (Appointment, Retirement, Pay and Allowances) Act, 2016. The Chief of Defence Staff can hold office for a maximum of four years after being appointed by the President.
The approval was given at a regular cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on Monday (December 12) chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
In addition, the cabinet has approved the draft of the President's address to the first session of the 10th National Parliament in 2017.
Cabinet Secretary Mohammad Shafiul Alam informed reporters about this after the meeting.
The cabinet also gave in-principle approval to the drafts of the 'Bangladesh Rice Research Institute Act, 2016', 'Seed Act, 2016' and 'Bangladesh Film and Television Institute (Amendment) Act, 2016'.
The draft was approved for the re-signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on the establishment and operation of border huts on the Bangladesh-India border.
The Cabinet has passed a proposal of condolence on the deaths of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa Jayaram and Bangladesh Prime Minister's Special Assistant Mahbubul Haque Shakeel.
