There are many people in our society who have achieved great success in various fields outside their profession, which has surpassed their profession. One such person is Sayeed Ahmed Tanvir. Although his profession is teaching, his beautiful calligraphy has won the hearts of people. He earns about 40 thousand taka per month by doing calligraphy. Tanvir of Shibnagar village in Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet has completed Daora and Ifta from Qaumi Madrasa and is teaching at Sylhet Jalalabad International Madrasa.
Tanvir's parents' handwriting was very beautiful. They used to design and tie up all the beautiful scenes. These things inspired Tanvir. He also thought of writing like this. After joining the madrasa in 2006, he made posters for various institutions. His writings used to be on the walls of educational institutions. In 2019, Mahbub Murshid's calligraphy course opened his eyes. His first calligraphy was Kalemae Tayyiba, the second was Ayatul Kursi.
He started earning money by selling calligraphy to a classmate in 2019. After that, he never looked back. Tanvir has made about 300 calligraphy works so far. Calligraphy has been one of his main sources of income for five years. He earns an average of 30,000 to 40,000 taka per month. However, he said that his income depends on the amount of work he does. The lowest price he gets is 2,000 taka and the highest is 100,000 taka.
Tanvir not only does calligraphy himself. He teaches calligraphy to those interested both offline and online. Tanvir conducts at least two courses every month through Calligraphy Academy. About 15 people participate in each course. So far, he has taught calligraphy to more than a hundred interested people. Tanvir is the general secretary of the Sylhet Calligraphers Association.
