Dr. has declared 5-point demands and 9-point goals in the national unity process ahead of the parliamentary elections. Kamal Hossain and Dr. United Front led by AQM Badruddozza Chowdhury.
The announcement was made at a press conference held at the National Press Club on Saturday afternoon.
The demands are:
1. Equal opportunities for all in the upcoming national elections. Before the election schedule is announced, the current parliament should be dissolved and a neutral government should be formed through discussions with the political parties. Election incumbents cannot be candidates.
2. In order to ensure free, fair and impartial elections, the freedom of assembly of individuals, newspapers, television, social media and all political parties should be ensured and the Election Commission should be reconstituted with acceptable persons through discussion.
3. The false cases brought against the leaders and workers of all political parties, including the students who led the movement for quota reform and safe roads, should be withdrawn and the arrested persons should be released. From now till the elections are over, the leaders and workers of any political party cannot be arrested.
4. From one month before the election to 10 days after the election, the army should be deployed with judicial powers in each electoral area for a total of 40 days and the Election Commission should be given full power to deploy and control the law and order forces.
5. The thought and plan of using EVMs in elections should be dropped. The Representation of the People Order, 1972 should be amended accordingly.
Jatiya Oikya has also stated nine goals. What they will do if the state comes to power, it has been said for this purpose. Their goals are:
1. Getting rid of the autocratic regime in Bangladesh with the aim of ending a personal executive power, bringing balance of power between parliament, government, president and prime minister and implementing decentralization of administration, appointment of ombudsman, independence of judiciary. Amendment of Article 70 of the Constitution, formation of Constitutional Commission to appoint non-partisan, neutral and honest qualified persons to important posts of constitutional institutions.
2. Necessary reforms will be ensured to modernize the Anti-Corruption Commission. In order to ensure good governance by establishing a corruption-free, efficient and accountable administration, crackdown on corruption at public and private levels and bring people involved in corruption to justice.
3. Creating an environment for growth of investment, ending unemployment and creativity of educated youth and considering merit as the only qualification in recruitment at the state level.
4. Ensuring education, health and nutrition of farmers-labourers and poor people with government funding.
5. Free public administration, police administration, local government and state institutions from corruption and partisanship.
6. Bringing discipline to financial institutions including Bangladesh Bank, ensuring maximum utilization of resources, balanced distribution and economic growth towards public welfare.
7. Building national consensus against militancy, terrorism and sectarianism and establishing positive creative and effective balancing politics against revenge, revenge and negative politics.
8. Pursuing foreign policy in the light of the principle of 'friendship with all countries, enmity with none'.
9. To equip, organize and modernize the defense forces with modern training, technology and equipment.
