Memorandum of Jalalabad Association with the Prime Minister on various demands for the development of Sylhet

The Jalalabad Association of America has presented a memorandum to the Prime Minister through the Bangladesh Consulate in New York to implement the various demands of the people of Greater Sylhet, including the conversion of Osmani Airport into a full-fledged international airport. The leaders of the Jalalabad Association of America handed over the memorandum to the Consul General of Bangladesh, Sadia Faizunnessa, appointed in New York at noon on Tuesday, September 1, local time. Jalalabad Association America President Moinul Haque Chowdhury Helal, General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury Shepaz, Sylhet Division Development Council New York President Shelly A. Mubdi, Bangladesh Society's former General Secretary Professor Rana Ferdous Chowdhury and Sylhet Division Development Council New York Coordinator Khalku Kamal were present.

Meanwhile, Jalalabad Association of America Vice President Ahbab Hossain Chowdhury, Mohammad Yusef Chowdhury, Mohammad Shafi Uddin Talukder and Manjur Hossain Chowdhury Jaglul, Joint General Secretary Lokman Hossain, Organizing Secretary Manik Ahmed, Executive Member Helim were present in front of the consulate during the presentation of the memorandum. Consul General Sadia Faizunnesa accepted the memorandum and said that the memorandum will be duly delivered to the Prime Minister, Foreign Minister and Planning Minister. President Moinul Haque Chowdhury Helal and General Secretary Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury Shefaz expressed gratitude to Consul General Sadia Jebunnessa and all concerned. The demands to the Prime Minister mentioned in the memorandum include, conversion of Osmani Airport into a full-fledged international airport, implementation of the project including international terminal building, 6 boarding bridges, hangar and cargo complex and VIP terminal at Ekneke approved Osmani International Airport for the benefit of millions of expatriates of Sylhet division. Construction of 2 important bypasses on both sides of the airport for the benefit of the expatriates: If a new four-lane bypass is constructed on the east side of the airport via Saheb Bazar and past Zakaria City to Surma Gate via Sylhet Jaflong Road, the expatriates of Golapganj, Biyanibazar, Jokiganj, Baralekha, Kanighat, Jainpur and Goainghat will be in danger of Amber Khana. You can travel to your destination quickly by this alternative route avoiding the traffic jam. Besides, if the 6-lane road construction work from Airport to Badaghat Mukhi is completed quickly, the expatriates of all the upazilas of Moulvibazar, Habiganj and Sunamganj districts will bypass the traffic jam of Ambarkhana and go quickly through the said bypass.

Construction of Sylhet-Dhaka 6 lanes: It is necessary to convert the Sylhet-Dhaka highway into 6 lanes as a priority project approved by the government. Sunamganj-Netrakona road of dream: The road including 12 km Udal road will change the face of Mymensingh including Sylhet division if it is quickly implemented during the tenure of the current government. A modern communication network will be established. Speedy construction of Sylhet-Akhaura double rail line: We Sylhet residents want Sylhet-Akhaura double rail line immediately with dual gauge as the double rail line has been built through Dhaka-Akhaura to Chittagong. Along with modernization of railway lines. Establishment of Sylhet Medical University: After Dhaka, Chittagong and Rajshahi, the infrastructure construction of the 4th Sylhet Medical University established in the country has started and speedy implementation. Sincere thanks from the people of Sylhet Division to the Hon'ble Prime Minister for fulfilling the demand. Establishment of Sylhet Engineering University: There are 5 engineering universities in the country namely Buet, Chuet, Kuet, Ruet and Duet; It is very important to establish an engineering university in Sylhet, the third most important divisional city of the country. Finally, the leaders said that expatriate Bangladeshis are the wealth of the country and the nation. Expats send $8 billion back home every year. Therefore, the government should take special measures to protect all the property of expatriates in the country. In this regard, I wish for the sincere intervention of the honorable Prime Minister.
