A mobile court in Lakshmipur has fined a cake maker named Jewel Tk 1 lakh for making birthday cakes in an unhealthy environment, using artificial colors and harmful ingredients.
Md. Nuruzzaman, Executive Officer of Sadar Upazila Parishad, paid the fine by setting up a mobile court at the cake factory in the Sonali Colony area of the city on Wednesday afternoon.
The fined Jewel is the son of the late Abul Kashem of Sonapur village in Begumganj, Noakhali district. It is also alleged that he has been making cakes in unsanitary conditions for a long time.
According to Upazila Parishad sources, for a long time, cakes have been made in an unhygienic environment in the Sonali Colony area of the city and artificial colors and other harmful ingredients that are harmful to human health have been used in making cakes. On such allegations, the UNO conducted a raid on the cake-making factory. At that time, according to the Consumer Rights Protection Act of 2009, the cake maker Jewel was fined 1 lakh taka.
Md. Nuruzzaman, executive officer of Lakshmipur Sadar Upazila Parishad and mobile court magistrate, confirmed the matter.
