Police have rescued 3 of the 5 jailers abducted from the Meghna river at Ramgati in the district.

They were rescued from Char Abdullah area of Meghna river late on Thursday night.

The rescued fishermen are the son of deceased Anshar Ali of Sabuj village in Ramgati. Babul (50), Alauddin Majhi (35) son of Nurul Haque of Asalpara village and Murad Hossain (45) son of deceased Badsha Mia of Sevagram.

According to police sources, on Thursday afternoon, fishermen were hunting fish in the CharAbdullah area of the Meghna river. At this time, the pirates attacked the trawler. During this time, they hacked and injured two fishermen, looted fish, nets and cash and kidnapped five fishermen. Later, the pirates demanded a huge ransom from the families of the kidnapped fishermen on mobile phones.

On receiving this information, the police raided CharAbdullah area late on Thursday and rescued three people from among the abductees.

Deputy Inspector (SI) of Ramgati Police Station. Rafiq said that the three abducted fishermen have been rescued. Police operations are on to rescue the other two abducted fishermen and arrest the pirates.
