Staff Reporter:
Lakshmipur Meghna's hundreds of fishermen families are on the rise due to Hilsa crisis. Eid shopping ahead, the desire to put a smile on the children's faces, and the hope of being a little better all depend on Meghna's hilsa. But they are working hard in the river all day and they are grinding hilsa on the shore with empty hands. The fishermen here are losing interest in fishing in the river day by day.
Kamalnagar fisherman Md. Abdul Quader Majhi said, "There is no use in going to Meghna, we have to return to Kul empty-handed." Not getting hilsa, our fishermen's families are crying. As soon as he goes home, the little child is eager to buy new clothes. I think I will not go home today.
Ramgati upazila fisherman Md. Chidu Majhi said, I go fishing in the river twice a day, it costs about 5 thousand taka. However, no fish can be found in Meghna river. Due to which we are facing loss day by day. If the government had given any baradh on the occasion of Eid, I would have been able to spend the Eid day in peace with my son and daughter.
Upazila Fisheries Officer Md. Abul Kashem said that the hilsa crisis is occurring during the season of fishing in the river due to disobeying the government's instructions. Also, as fishing is prohibited in Meghna 25 cm deep till June 30, Hilsa is caught less.
