General Secretary of Awami League and Minister of Road Transport and Bridges Obaidul Quader said that the leader of the Parliament will decide who will be the opposition party in the 12th National Parliament. He will decide what to do in this matter after understanding the situation and reality.
Obaidul Quader said these things at a press conference organized at the Dhaka District Awami League office in Tejgaon of the capital on Monday. He said, on the occasion of Bangabandhu's homecoming day, Awami League will organize a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital on January 10. Awami League President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will preside over the rally.
In response to a question from journalists, Obaidul Quader said that only after the election results are officially announced, who will be the opposition party can be said. Many of the current opposition Jatiya Party won, two of the 14 parties also won. The time to make a decision in this regard is not far. Whoever will be the Leader of the House (Parliament leader) will decide in this regard. The new Prime Minister, the new Leader of the House, will understand the situation and reality and decide what to do.
In response to the question of how the opposition party will be formed, he said, why should I say the method? Let this new government sit. The Prime Minister will hold a meeting with those concerned. He will decide based on reality.
Regarding the independent candidates who won the elections, the Awami League general secretary said that the independent candidates of the Awami League who won are also the representatives of the people. They are chosen. They will sit in the Parliament as elected members and play their role. Other than that, there is no time to think about anything else at the moment. He said, Awami League will run the country by respecting the people's verdict. We will implement the promises made in our election manifesto to the letter. Future Bangladesh will be smart and prosperous. This election will be a milestone in the country's democratic journey.
Pointing out that BNP-Jamaat has failed this time too, Obaidul Quader said, there is nothing to be done but wait for the next 5 years by boycotting the elections again and again. Today all their complaints are devoid of reality and baseless. He gave a false statement in a press briefing. Such lies are responsible for their tragic end.
Regarding foreign journalists and observers in the election, he said, it is not for recognition, the international world wants to know how our election is. We have said that there will be free and fair elections. The Independent Election Commission will conduct the elections. Let the democratic world witness whether our words are matched by deeds. That's why we did it.
When drawing attention to the BNP's comments on the election, the Bridge Minister said that domestic and foreign journalists and observers have all seen and witnessed the election. You yourself have witnessed how peaceful, fair and free the BNP-Jamaat has been despite the fierce opposition and anti-election terrorist activities.
Regarding BNP's movement, he said, the country will not run on what BNP has said. According to what BNP has said, they could not do it to oust the government through their movement. This election cannot be allowed to happen, will be resisted - that's all they said.
