Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said that the process of enrolling non-MPO educational institutions into MPO will be taken up quickly based on the policy.
He said this in response to a question from Jatiya Party MP Fakhrul Imam during the Question and Answer Session of the National Parliament on Wednesday.
The Prime Minister further said that after the Awami League government came to power, 1,624 private educational institutions have been included in MPO across the country to improve the quality of education. The Manpower Structure of Private Educational Institutions (Schools and Colleges) and MPO Policy 2018 have already been issued to include the remaining non-MPO educational institutions in MPO based on specific policies.
He said that following this policy, quick action will be taken regarding the MPO (Monthly Payment Order) registration of educational institutions. For this purpose, two separate committees have been formed to receive online applications and select institutions according to management and rules.
Incidentally, under the banner of the Non-MPO Educational Institution Teachers-Employees Federation, they began a hunger strike to death on the morning of June 25 on the side of the road opposite the National Press Club after continuously holding various programs since June 10.
Earlier, teachers and employees of recognized non-MPO educational institutions went on a hunger strike from December 31 to January 5 demanding MPO inclusion. Later, they broke the hunger strike on January 5 after being assured by an official from the Prime Minister's Office. But they resumed the agitation on June 10 after seeing no funds allocated for this sector in the budget presented in Parliament on June 7.
There are currently about 8,000 non-MPO educational institutions in the country. Of these, 5,242 schools, colleges and madrasas have government recognition.
