The bodies of three Bangladeshi peacekeepers killed in a bomb blast while serving in the United Nations peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic have been brought home and buried. They were buried with military honors in their respective villages on Saturday. This information was informed in a press release of the Directorate of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
On this day, their funeral was held at the Army Aviation Hangar of Dhaka Cantonment. Army Chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed and senior officers of Dhaka Cantonment were present at the funeral. At this time, the army chief laid wreaths in honor of the slain peacekeepers. The bodies of the peacekeepers were then sent to their respective villages in Brahmanbaria, Sirajganj and Nilphamari by army helicopters.
On October 3, a convoy of a peacekeeping mission was hit by an IED blast on its way back from a patrol. Three Bangladeshi peacekeepers in the front car of the fleet were killed. Their bodies arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday.
So far, 129 army personnel of Bangladesh have sacrificed their lives while serving in the peacekeeping mission. Bangladeshi peacekeepers are carrying out peacekeeping operations in eight African countries risking their lives.
