Staff Reporter: Miscreants have hacked another temple attendant in Jhenaidah to death in less than a month.
While picking the flowers of the temple in the early morning, three miscreants came on a motorcycle and hacked away Syamananda Das, the Sevayat or servant of the temple named Sri Sri Radhamdan Gopal Vigraha Math.
Police said the incident took place around 5:30 a.m. on Friday. The police said that this attack is similar to the recent attacks on religious minorities.
Another Hindu priest, Anand Gopal Ganguly, was similarly hacked to death in Jhenaidah on June 7.
Jhenaidah Additional Superintendent of Police Azgar Ali Sheikh said that Sebayet Shyamananda Das was picking flowers and chanting in front of the temple located on the Dhaka-Khulna highway in North Kashta Sagara village around 5:30 am. At that time three miscreants came and cut him with sharp weapons and left.
He was taken to a local hospital but the doctor declared him brought dead.
Hasan Hafizur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jhenaidah Sadar police station, said that Shyamananda Das came as a servant of the temple and stayed for some time, then went to another temple. In this way, he had been visiting this temple for a long time. He came to this temple from Jessore last Thursday.
The police have not yet received information about the family or relatives of the homeless Shyamanand Das.
According to sources, this attack is similar to the recent attacks on religious minorities.
Shyamananda Das started serving this temple four years ago.
In the past few years, there have been about half a hundred cases of similar attacks on members of religious minorities by riding motorcycles and hacking them to death or injuring them with sharp weapons.
