4 Bangladeshis jailed in Singapore for terrorist financing

A Singapore court has sentenced four Bangladeshis to two to five years in prison for terror financing.

Those four Bangladeshis are, Mizanur Rahman (31), Rubel Mia (26), Md. Javed Qaiser Haji Nurul Islam Saudagar (30) and Ismail Howlader Sohail (29). Among them, the court sentenced Mizanur to 60 months, Rubel and Jabat to 30 months and Sohail to 24 months.

All four of them pleaded guilty in court on May 31.

According to the police of that country, all these four Bangladeshis went to Singapore for work and got involved in militancy. Among them, Mizanur is a medium-level skilled worker with an S-pass, while the rest were all in Singapore as semi-skilled workers with work permits.

The four expatriate Bangladeshis were detained last April under Singapore's Internal Security Act (ISA). Later he pleaded guilty in court. They were found guilty of terror financing. The court announced the sentence today.

According to the Straits Times, six Bangladeshis were detained under Singapore's Terrorism (Suppression of Financing) Act. The four who received jail terms are part of that group. The other two are Zaman Daulat (34) and Mamun Liaquat Ali (29). Facing trial, they denied the charges in court.

According to court information, Mizanur was the leader of this group in carrying out militant activities. Mamun's position in the team was second. Rubel looked after financial management. Jabat worked to protect communications. Zaman and Sohail looked after the security and fighter section of the team.

According to some Singapore-based media, members of the group were planning to attack back to Bangladesh with the aim of overthrowing the government. Their aim was to establish an Islamic state in Bangladesh. And taking that state under the self-proclaimed caliphate of IS, a Middle East-based militant organization.
