After receiving his first month's salary, Md. Simon went to a restaurant with his friends. After eating, he bought a pair of pants for himself. On his way back, three young men suddenly came and claimed that Simon had cracked their elder brother's head. Then, under the pretext of matching his face with the photo, he was taken to the intellectual cemetery area of Mirpur in the capital. There, he was stabbed and his money was taken away. After being taken to the hospital, the doctor declared him dead.
The police made the announcement on Friday after arresting two robbers involved in the incident on the evening of October 11. The two arrested are Yusuf and Iqbal. They were arrested in a raid in different areas of Mirpur on Thursday. During the raid, 1,100 taka and a switchgear knife were found in their possession. An operation is underway to arrest the other accused involved in the murder-robbery.
A press conference was organized in this regard on Friday morning at the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police of Mirpur Division in Mirpur-2 Section of the capital. Deputy Commissioner Jasim Uddin Molla said that Simon came to Dhaka from Morelganj, Bagerhat, in search of a job two months ago. Here he lived with his uncle. He got a job in a garment factory in Mirpur. After working there for a month, he received a salary of 10,000 taka. That day, he went to the Sony Cinema Hall area of Mirpur to feed his friends. On the way back, he and his friend Rabbi were kidnapped.
The deputy commissioner said that the kidnappers, accusing him of beating another person in a novel way, took him in a rickshaw to the Intellectual Cemetery area. There, under the pretext of comparing photos, they took him away from his friend and took his money and mobile phone. Later, the kidnappers stabbed him and fled.
He said that the deceased's father, Shahjahan Sheikh, filed a case with Darus Salam Police Station in this incident. After that, the police started an investigation. At one stage, a drive was launched to identify and arrest those involved.
