However, last year the duration of heatstroke was less than this year. Last year in April it rained 34 mm. Earlier, in April 2000, the rainfall was 70 mm. The highest temperature in April that year was 38 degrees Celsius. And in April 2014, it rained 50 mm, the maximum temperature was 40.7 degrees Celsius.

Khulna University Environmental Science Discipline Professor Dr. Abdullah Harun Chowdhury said that many reservoirs have been filled in Khulna. These water bodies absorbed the heat. Before there were many plants, they supplied oxygen and absorbed carbon dioxide. Now the amount of carbon-dioxide in the air has increased due to the reduction of vegetation. He said that the number and usage of AC has increased in Khulna compared to before. This is also a reason for the increase in temperature. Besides, salinity has increased in Khulna. Due to salinity, the air is more humid and saltier, so it feels hotter.
