Palli News Dex: In Kamalnagar upazila of Lakshmipur, the Meghna river has taken a terrible shape. In the last 1 month, 500 small and big businesses and small and big business establishments of Kadirpandit's market and Ludhua market of the upazila and Falkon High School, Falkon Chiddikia Dakhil Madrasa, have disappeared in the belly of the river. In this situation, thousands of people have lost their homes and businesses and are sitting on the road. As if everyone is not stopping crying. This cruel game of nature does not leave them behind. Roads, educational institutions, mosques, shelters, crop lands and houses and public and private buildings have been submerged in the collapse.

Due to the terrible erosion of the Meghna, traders in Kadirpandit's haat and Ludhua market have lost everything and are now disoriented. The people of these areas have lost their homes, businesses and institutions and have faced extreme financial losses. It is never possible to make up for this loss. People who lost everything in the river erosion have to rush to get two handfuls of food today. Sometimes they have to spend days without food. The educational institutions of these areas have been lost due to river erosion. This has stopped the education program in these areas. School students on the banks of the river can be seen working on boats after stopping their studies.

It is known that Kadir Pandit's Hut and Ludhua Bazaar are the traditional markets of Kamalnagar Upazila. Hundreds of years of history are associated with these markets. Due to the terrible erosion of the river, the two bazaars have now gone under the river. Hundred years ago, Ludhua Bazar was established at the meeting point of Patirirhat, Falkon and Saheberhat Unions. The market was the trust of thousands of people of the three unions. Ludhua Bazar was the life center especially for fishermen and fishmongers. There were more than five hundred shops in this market.

Meanwhile, several times local people have protested, human chained, held meetings and submitted memorandums to the Prime Minister to prevent river erosion. They have been demanding to stop the erosion for years but still nothing has been done. At present Motirhat, Matabbarhat, Hajiganj, Nabiganj, Islamganj and Nashirganj markets are under threat.

In this regard, the executive engineer of Lakshmipur Water Development Board said that the senior officials including the chief engineer of Paubo recently visited the damaged area of Kamalnagar.

The expectation of two lakh people in Kamalnagar is that the government will take necessary steps on an urgent basis to prevent river erosion.
