JDC candidate saved from child marriage in Kamalnagar

Fatema Begum, a Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) candidate, was saved from child marriage due to the intervention of UNO in Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur. A mobile court fined the bride's father in this incident.

The wedding arrangements were stopped on Wednesday (November 16) afternoon after the intervention of Kamalnagar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Mohammad Masudur Rahman Mollah.

Fatema Begum is the daughter of Din Islam, a JDC examinee of Hazirhat Hamediya Fazil Degree Madrasa and a resident of Patari Hat Union.

Kamalnagar Upazila administration said that the wedding arrangements were going on between Fatema Begum, a JDC examinee from Patarihat Union, and Miraj from neighboring Kalkini Union. Upon receiving the news, the Upazila Executive Officer sent the police to stop the wedding arrangements and arrested the bride's father. Immediately, the groom and his relatives fled. Later, when the bride's father, Din Islam, was presented in a mobile court, the judge fined him Tk 1,000. And he took a plea bargain on the condition of not marrying a child. At that time, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kamalnagar Police Station Akul Chandra Biswas was present.

Kamalnagar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mohammad Masudur Rahman Molla confirmed the matter.
