Pally News Dex:
In Kamalnagar, Lakshmipur, almost all schools and madrasas in the upazila are collecting additional fees from the candidates for filling out the 2017 SSC and Dakhil examination forms. In a situation where families have been torn apart by the terrible erosion of the Meghna and the areas are extremely poor, students and guardians are being charged additional fees to fill out the forms.
According to the 2017 notification regarding form filling by the board, the total fee to be collected from each regular examinee is 1385 taka. Institutions are collecting 2200 to 2500 taka in the humanities branch and 2500 to 2800 taka in the science branch. In addition to this, they are adding coaching fee of 600 taka and cross fee of 500 taka. Many institutions are demanding 1000 taka to 5000 taka as a deposit from students who have failed in the selection examination in multiple subjects. There is no such precedent that this deposit has ever been returned to the examinees in the past, whereas the board notification shows that no other fee or dues can be collected from the examinees except the examination fee. For irregular/partial examinees, the fee is 265 taka, but the institutions are demanding 1200 taka.
In this regard, Iqbal Hossain, general secretary of the Kamalnagar Secondary Teachers' Association, and Makshudur Rahman, organizing secretary of the Madrasa Teachers' Association, said, "We have various expenses, so we are charging a little more."
Upazila Executive Officer Mehmad Masudur Rahman Molla said, "After learning about the issue of collecting additional fees, I called all the heads of institutions for an emergency meeting within a short time."
