Legal action if bus fare is high during Eid: Bridges Minister

Online Desk: Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has said that legal action will be taken if there are complaints of high bus fares during the upcoming Eid. The bridge minister said this on Sunday in a coordination meeting at the secretariat to resolve traffic congestion in neighboring districts of Dhaka ahead of Eid. When asked for a response to the complaint of charging extra fares against the bus owners during Eid, the minister said, "We have had a meeting with the transport owners and workers." The problem is that when we go to the station, the terminal and ask what you charged more, no one says anything. He said, "I have got a rare case, the rent is high." Still I say, we will take legal action if there is a complaint of overcharging.

Obaidul Quader said, we will have a vigilance team there (at the bus terminal), you (passengers) can inform the vigilance team (about charging more fare). Stating that some areas around Dhaka become very congested during Eid, the Road Transport Minister said that the police in these congested areas often suffer due to the intensity of the traffic. Obaidul Quader said that 1,000 rover scout volunteers will work at 16 traffic-prone points around Dhaka. The places are Kanchpur, Meghna, Bhulta, Nabinagar, Ashulia, Jirabo Bazar, Bypail, Konabari, Chandra, Pakulla, Kaliakair, Kanchan Setu, Madanpur, Gomti Setu. And Elenga.

Obaidul Quader said, we will give one thousand taka honorium (honor) to everyone. Work will be done in three shifts for five days (before Eid). They will work 24 hours a day. At each point there will be a leader, he will be paid 100 rupees more. He will get Rs.1100. They (Rover Scouts) are also very happy to come with us. He said, we will keep the people's suffering under tolerable label (tolerable level) that is our job. A presentation was given in the meeting outlining alternative routes from Dhaka to Uttaranchal and Sylhet.
