The amended Representation of the People Order (RPO) Ordinance has been issued to allow the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) in the 11th parliamentary elections. The gazette in this regard will now be published.
An ordinance amending the law was issued on Wednesday after the President signed it into law as Parliament was not in session. As a result, the Election Commission will be able to use electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the upcoming national elections.
EC Secretary Helaluddin Ahmed confirmed the issuance of the ordinance to the media. He said, the RPO Amendment Ordinance has been signed by His Excellency the President. It will be issued soon. In this regard, EVM, online nomination submission, loan defaulters have been given the opportunity to pay before submitting their nominations, he said.
Earlier, the proposal to amend the RPO was approved at a cabinet meeting last Monday.
