Re-polling is planned on July 27 in 346 polling stations suspended in UP elections

চববচব Pally News Dex: The Election Commission (EC) is planning to conduct re-polling on July 27 in 346 polling stations that were suspended due to irregularities in the recently held Union Parishad (UP) elections across the country.

Sources said that the final decision will be taken in the commission meeting to be held next week. In this case, simultaneous polling in all the centers is being considered. On this day, the dates of all the UP elections of Banskhali and Baghmara upazilas can be fixed. The EC suspended all the UP elections in the two upazilas due to the withdrawal of the election officer by the MP in Banshkhali and the MP in Baghmara not complying with the election conduct rules.

In the recently held 9th UP election, the EC polled about 45,500 centers in six phases. Among them, due to electoral irregularities, rigging and violence, the returning officers suspended the polling of a total of 346 polling stations. The winner of the post of chairman could not be declared in 104 UP as the results of these centers did not come. Apart from this, the candidate could not be declared winner for 100 reserved and general membership posts.

Polling was suspended in 65 UP elections in the first phase, 37 in the second phase on March 31, 26 in the third phase on April 23 and 53 in the fourth phase on May 7. Besides, the polling of 123 polling stations in the fifth phase on May 28 and 42 polling stations in the last phase on June 4 was suspended due to irregularities.
