Pally News Dex:
No one will be able to do journalism in the future without a certificate. If you want to do journalism, you will definitely need a certificate. And the demand for this certificate is not made by the government, but by real journalists. Real journalists are now extremely worried because of unjournalism. They want to arrange a charter to stop bad journalism.
The government is taking legislative initiatives to protect genuine journalists and prevent malpractice. Various plans have been undertaken in joint initiative of Press Council and Ministry of Information to prevent mal-journalism. Basically, a kind of policy is being fixed for journalism.
It is known that a report will be sent to the Ministry of Information in the form of recommendations from the Press Council. After the verification, the law will be made based on it. Among the recommendations that the Press Council is going to make is the obligation to obtain certificates for journalists. Apart from this, there is a provision to file a defamation case due to any published news or article only in the Press Council. This information is known from the sources of the Press Council.
It is known that the Press Council has taken this initiative to prevent the violence of yellow journalism and fake journalists and to ensure that genuine journalists are not harassed.
According to the Press Council sources, the report is also recommending the structure and content of the examination for the certification of journalists. It is said that those who want to study journalism from the university and want to enter the journalism profession will be given the certificate only through oral examination.
On the other hand, in the case of journalists working in the mainstream media, the certificate will be issued if the editor of the newspaper or television sends the list of journalists under them to the Press Council. But if you want to start journalism anew, you have to get a certificate.
It is known that the defamation case against the journalists is also being recommended for professional reasons. It is recommended that if someone wants to file a defamation case against journalists, it should be done only in the Press Council.
Press Council Chairman Justice Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed has already spoken to Information Minister Hasanul Haque Inu about the matter. He has been asked to prepare a proposal and the Press Council is preparing the report accordingly. The report along with recommendations will be sent to the ministry after being approved in the press council meeting.
Press Council Chairman Justice Mumtaz Uddin Ahmed said that such an initiative has been taken to stop un-journalism. He said, 'No one will be able to do journalism in the future without a certificate. If you want to do journalism, you will definitely need a certificate. And the demand for this certificate is not made by the government, but by real journalists.
He further said, 'Real journalists are now extremely worried due to un-journalism. They want to arrange a charter to stop bad journalism. So initiatives have been taken to enroll genuine journalists in the Press Council and give them certificates through examination.'
When asked what kind of qualifications are required to do journalism, Press Council Secretary Shyamal Chandra Karmakar said, 'Now recommendations are being made with opinions from various places on these issues. All the views of the Press Council will be taken. We are working on what kind of decision can be taken through discussion to implement this initiative without errors.'
Shah Alamgir, director general of Press Institute of Bangladesh, said, 'Cheating on journalistic identity is dishonorable to the entire journalistic community. However, we also have a plan to bring journalists under the charter. Bangladesh Press Council has already taken the initiative to give the certificate, according to which they have started the work. We have also sent a proposal to the ministry in this regard.
He said, 'Government is thinking of providing certification through examination or training for those who want to enter the journalism profession. No one should enter the journalism profession without a certificate. And if it is implemented, maybe unjournalism in this profession will decrease a lot.'
The chairman of Transparency International Bangladesh said, 'This initiative of the government to stop un-journalism is positive. If it is implemented, unjournalism will be reduced a lot. Anyone who wants to can enter this profession. However, before making this law, there is a need for an open discussion with the media and related people. The process and criteria for granting the certificate should be properly defined. Only then will the initiative be properly implemented.
