In about eight-and-a-half months after the inauguration of the universal pension scheme, the number of subscribers in its four schemes has crossed 1 lakh. A little more than 52 crore rupees have been collected from these customers. This information was revealed by the National Pension Authority on Monday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina officially inaugurated the universal pension program on August 17 last year. Since that day, four schemes namely 'Progress' for private sector employees, 'Suraksha' for self-employed, 'Expatriate' for expatriate Bangladeshis and 'Equality' for low income groups are open to all. In the first month after the inauguration, 12 thousand 889 people became subscribers in four schemes.
But later this number decreased slightly and increased from 1,000 to 1,500 for five months. However, from the sixth month, the growth of the subscriber increased. 1 lakh 1 thousand 226 people have become customers in four types of pension programs in about eight and a half months till today Monday. 52 crore 66 lakh 51 thousand 500 taka has been collected from all customers. Of this, 42 crores have been invested in government treasury bonds.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to bring under a pension program named 'Praytaya' those who will join new jobs in self-governing, autonomous, state-owned, statutory or homogeneous organizations and their subordinate bodies after July 1.
