Deputy Commissioner Md. Zillur Rahman Chowdhury inaugurated the 10-day Bijoy Mela in Lakshmipur.
He inaugurated the fair by releasing balloons and pigeons at the city's Adarsh Samad High School grounds on Tuesday afternoon.
Later, the inaugural discussion meeting was attended by Superintendent of Police A.S.M. Mahatab Uddin, Municipal Mayor Abu Taher, Sadar Upazila Chairman A.K.M. Salah Uddin Tipu, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sajjadul Hasan, Assistant Superintendent of Police (Circle) Khandaker Golam Shahnewaz, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Nuruzzaman, District Information Officer Abdullah Al Mamun, Headmaster of Adarsh Samad High School Md. Taher, District Chhatra League President Chowdhury Mahmudunnabi Sohel, among others.
The speakers shed light on the contribution of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in the great liberation war.
Meanwhile, more than fifty stalls selling various products are set up at the fair. The fair will end next Friday.
