Md. Zaker Hossain, who was injured in a clash between two parties over a land dispute in Char Kalakopa village of Poragachha union in Ramgati upazila of Lakshmipur, has died.
A murder case was filed at Ramgati Police Station on Sunday afternoon (December 11) in connection with the death. Earlier, Zaker Hossain died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 2 pm. Police arrested six people in connection with the incident.
When news of the death reached the area, angry locals, including relatives of the deceased, set fire to the houses of the opponents.
The deceased was identified as Zaker Hossain, son of Mahar Ali of Char Kalakopa village in the upazila.
The detainees are Abdul Malek, Md. Gias, Md. Belal, Farid Uddin, Md. Helal and Farooq.
Locals said that Abul Hossain Gang of Char Kalakopa village of Poragachha union upazila was in dispute with Naju Gang of the same village over three acres of land. The disputed land has been in the possession of Abul Hossain Gang for a long time. On Saturday (December 10) morning, when Nazim Uddin (Naju) Gang went to harvest paddy on that land with his people, Abul Hossain Gang's tenant farmer Zaker Hossain stopped him. At that time, they beat and injured Zaker. This led to a clash between the two sides. At least 10 people from both sides were injured in the clash. The injured Zaker, Matin, Imam Hossain and some others were admitted to Noakhali Hospital. Among them, Zaker Hossain, who was seriously injured, was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he died on Sunday afternoon while undergoing treatment.
When news of Zakir Hossain's death reached the area, relatives of the deceased and angry locals set fire to Farid's house in Naju Gong. Three houses, including a residential house, were burnt down.
However, the family of the deceased Zakir Hossain said that the Naju gangs are trying to blame others by setting fire to their house.
Ramgati Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Iqbal Hossain said that Zakir Hossain, who was injured in a clash between two parties over a land dispute, died while undergoing treatment in Dhaka. Abul Hossain filed a case with the police station as a plaintiff in the incident. Six people have been arrested in the incident. No one has filed a complaint about the arson yet. Legal action will be taken after investigating the incident and the incident of arson in the house.
