Annual income of e-GP is Rs. 450 crores

The government has earned Tk 450 crore annually as a result of using e-Government Procurement Portal (e-GP), a digital system for government purchases. At the same time saving like 60 million dollars or 6 thousand crore rupees. There are also major cost benefits from environmental protection. All things considered, the financial contribution of e-GP is much higher.

Mohammad Sohelar Rahman Chowdhury, Director General of Planning Commission's Central Procurement Technical Unit (CPTU) highlighted these savings and other benefits through e-GP in an exchange of views with various media persons on Thursday. It was organized at the CPTU meeting room of the Ministry of Planning in Sherebangla Nagar of the capital.

Outgoing Secretary Abu Hena Morshed Zaman of the Implementation, Monitoring and Evaluation Department (IMED) of the Ministry of Planning was the chief guest on the occasion. He said that there has been a qualitative change in government purchases through e-GP. The entire process is now paperless. Already ISO certificate and director award are major achievements. World Bank advises many countries of the world to follow Bangladesh's e-GP program. However, he advised the CPTU officials to think about how the e-GP process can work more smoothly during a crisis like Corona.

Talking about the other benefits of e-GP, CPTU Director General said that at present tender process can be done in 58 days instead of 100 days through e-GP. Bidders reduced travel distance by 497 million kilometres; 1 thousand 53 million pages of paper have been saved and 1 lakh 53 thousand 559 tons of carbon emissions have been reduced. He highlighted other related information and facilities. Senior officials of CPTU participated in the discussion.
